Hadhiya (Blog post 28 (iii))

=Open letter to those young people...= To those young people, who are confidently speaking ill or against Islam on social media, do not think that you are being any more ‘intellectual’ by doing so. The fact of the matter is that there is a side of an entire picture that you are refusing to see. Just because you side with what the western academics say, does not make you any more intelligent. It just shows how blinded you have become, with the folds that they have been trying to put on your eyes for so long. So dare to take those folds off your eyes. And ask the big questions. Do not be stuck with the smaller questions like “Why do we have 5 prayers?”, “Why do men get to have 4 wives?”, “Why do women have to wear hijab?”….these are all small questions. We all need to learn to ask the big questions, like “Is this really the Truth?”, “Is that man really a messenger?”, “Is that Book truly the Word of God?” When we start asking these question, and start searching for them with a sin...

Hadhiya (Blog post 28 (ii))

When I heard the words “there is no one who could bring a surah like in the Quran.”, about 6 years ago, I was skeptical. Being the stubborn person I was, I held onto the thought that if I knew Arabic, I might as well be able to write a few Arabic sentences that rhyme like the Quran (May Allah forgive me). As a matter of fact, I kept coming back to this thought even after I started to learn seriously about the Quran. But then I finally started to learn Arabic because of the mere love I developed for the Quran itself. And had completely forgotten about the thought that was occasionally running through my head. But then I finally came across this ayah after a few years. فَإِن لَّمْ تَفْعَلُوا وَلَن تَفْعَلُوا فَاتَّقُوا النَّارَ الَّتِي وَقُودُهَا النَّاسُ وَالْحِجَارَةُ ۖ أُعِدَّتْ لِلْكَافِرِينَ " But if you do not - and you will never be able to - then fear the Fire, whose fuel is men and stones, prepared for the disbelievers.” Suratul Baqarah, 24 Allah says ...

Hadhiya (Blog post 28 (i))

The Quran begins with the words “Alhamdhulillah” which means ‘all praise and thanks belong to Allah”. It begins with an answer to a question that any decent human being will have. Any decent human being will look at the world around him and praise it for anything beautiful in it. And any decent human being will also thank someone who does something for him. But at the end of the day, he realizes that all of these praises and all of these thanks go back to someone higher than him. Because he understands that everything around him could not have been possibly made so precisely by a human being. And all the favours that he has for himself, his food, shelter, clothes and even his body could not have only come from someone who is perfect. Because he did not decide when he would be born. He did not decide what he will look like. And he does not get to decide when he is going to die. When a person with these thoughts opens the Quran, he sees the words “Alhamdhulillah.” and gets all of his a...

Isms: Lesson 2 (Number)

Image
As we have seen in the previous lesson, isms (nouns) have 4 properties. They are: 1.      Status:- rafa’ (doer), nasb (detail), jarr 2.      Number 3.      Gender 4.      Type The previous day we learned in detail about status. Today we will be covering the next property, ‘number’. When it comes to number of an ism, it’s somewhat like singular and plural in English. But in Arabic, they have a third category called the pair. The chart below will make it clear In Sha Allah. Starting from the first column on the right, ‘muslimun’ would mean 1 muslim in rafa’ form. ‘Muslima n ’ would mean 1 muslim in the nasb form. ‘Muslimin’ would mean 1 muslim in the jarr form. From the next column ‘muslimaani’ would mean 2 muslims in the rafa’ form, ‘muslimaini’ would mean 2 muslims in the nasb form and the next ‘muslimaini’ would mean 2 muslims in the jarr form. (Nasb and jarr have similar pattern in th...

Hadhiya (Blog post 27)

Its one thing to say that “Allah Listens to the call” while you are calling upon Him. But it’s another, to say those same words, when the very thing you are calling for has happened right before your eyes. What we often forget is that we have to keep calling from that very first moment, to that happy ending in order for us to taste the true sweetness of that blessing. Because at the end of the day, that’s one of the ways that we get to feel the Love of the One Who Loves us the most.
