“Religion is only for the scholars and religious teachers. Not for ‘normal’ people like myself” This mentality embedded deep in our minds is the peak of secularism. And this thought process doesn’t just come out of nowhere. Of course media has a role to play. But that’s just one part of the problem. Most of us, if not all of us have these thoughts because of nothing but…..hopelessness! Hopelessness?! What does that have to with this? Imagine a young man or a young woman growing up in a Muslim community. They were taught how to recite the Quran and meanings of some ayahs and a few hadhith. They know bits and pieces from the life of Prophet (SAW). And they have heard somewhat about his companions. But all of this was when they were in school. After they graduate, they go for a higher education that has nothing to do with religion and they simply don’t feel the need to learn more about it. Because back at home, they have seen people who do study the religion in depth. People who...
